Parallel Gap Welder Premium, SMAPRO180

Building on a long record of excellence, the SMAPRO180 is our next generation PG welder, incorporating the most advanced hardware and software technologies. An upadted and refined digital user interface allows for fthe tuning and saving of settings for up to 10 different processes. This feature is important as it increases the consistency between processes and operators.

Specially engineered for large volume production and automatic production lines, the SMAPRO180 is fully compatable with RS232

and RS485 allowing full integration into your production line and offering welding parameters feedback for real time production flow and quality control monitoring.  The basic settings are user defined and can go low and fine enough to bond very delicate, fine gold wire, yet is also powerful enough to power through 28 gauge enameled wire! The key to the flexibility is our specially developed power and pulse algorithms. The parameters are user set and then automatically refined through a dedicated on-board processor using our tired and tested algorithms. This patented algorithm brings the full weight of our R&D team to your side when developing and perfecting process. In addition to enameled wire welding, the Parallel Gap Welders can also be used to weld metal wires and metal ribbon to a wide variety of surfaces. We have achieved superior bonding performance over other bonding methods with Gold Wire and Gold Ribbon applications. Everything from printed circuit board traces to thin and thick film materials; copper, stainless steel, zinc, gold, and more. Our machines provide the best quality, highest strength, most reliable, consistent, and cost effective welding joints for a wide variety of electronic and mechanical applications.A distinct advantage of the PG welding process is that it is naturally RoHS Compliant as no toxic soldering materials involved.

The SMAPRO180 is available with several different optical options to fit your needs, including the Stereo Microscope shown in the image above. A few of our most popular optical kits are detailed below.

PCB Repair Machine, SMAPRO200

One day, several years ago we were presented with a unique challenge; the repair of delicate printed curcuit board traces for expensive high density boards. The more layers a board conatins, the more processes it must go through. During these processes, the board can become scratched or damaged during washing, transport, inspection, and general handling. As a design and engineering firm at heart, we went to work and soon, the SMAPRO200 was born.

Our first PCB Repair Machine, SMAPRO200 was designed

specifically for the evaluation, identification, and repair of scratched, damaged, or broken PCB traces. The repair is very durable and can easily withstand the harsh washing/cleaning process in preperation for another layer. The repaired joints are neat, clean, pollution/corrosion free and reliable. Additionally, the strenghth of the repair meets or exceeds the specifications of the broken trace and allows the saving of damamged PCB wafers. This increases productivity while reducing cost, scrap waste and overrun requirments.

Our SMAPRO200 is designed standard with a industry unique throatless desgin allowing the pass through of common 18" x 24" PCB wafers. Larger platforms are available upon request.

The SMAPRO200 is available with several different optical options to fit your needs, including the Digital Microscope and monitor shown in the image above. A few of our most popular optical kits are detailed below.

Electrodes - Standard and Clean Free

One of the biggest hurdles our engineering team ran into in the early days of PG welding was delicate and expensive electrodes. The goal was to develop a reliable, consistent, and durable, "set-it-and-forget-it" process. To achieve this, we had to revamp the way electrodes were made. After many hours and extensive material testing, we are proud to offer our SW-ETD electrode line.

Model SW-ETD series electrodes are especially designed for our full line of PG and PCB Welders. Our electrodes are each made from a single piece of High Temperature Molybdenum Alloy (HTM), High Purity Molybdenum Alloy (HPM) and Molybdenum Tungsten Alloy (MTA). These materials have been specially selected to give our electrodes superior durability under harsh conditions.

Once the alloy has been selected and procured, it is laser split and bonded back together with a thin adhesive insulator. This insulator is key to an effective weld and is carefully formulated to determine electrode separation and resistance lending consistency and reliability to the welding process.

Another industry innovation is our development and perfection of the Clean Free electrode. Specially designed to eliminate buildup associated with the enamel stripping process. All waste is burnt off in the One Step strip and weld operation. This Clean Free feature greatly increases electrode life and reduces process cycle time.

The standard electrodes are organized into 9 different families to suit different types of applications. Each family has 5 standard head sizes for different wire and ribbon sizes. The diameter and length of the standard electrodes are 3.0 mm x 30.0 mm and the clean free electrodes are 3.2 mm x 28 mm. The dimensions of these electrodes are designed to industry standards and can be used in many other manufacturers’ welders. The detailed parameters and outline drawings of these electrodes are shown in the PDF datasheet. While standard models can cover most of customers’ needs, custom designs are also available
